We are outraged at reports in Haaretz that a right-wing pro-Israel group associated with American billionaire Sheldon Adelson has secretly collected and is circulating a dossier of information on Palestinian-American activist and Women’s March Co-Chair Linda Sarsour and her family. All people, regardless of political views, deserve privacy. Conducting surveillance on Ms. Sarsour and her family causes hezek re’iyah, a halachic (Jewish legal) concept describing damage inflicted by looking inside another’s private domain. Likewise, the families of activists must never be targets for politically motivated attacks. Ms. Sarsour’s opponents are free to argue with her public statements and actions and to criticize her on the merits of her arguments, rather than search for damaging private information about her.
