Michaela Brown (she/her/hers) is a proud native Virginian, spending the first 23 years of her life in Northern Virginia and Charlottesville. She developed a deep passion for Jewish community and feminism during high school through her involvement with B’nai B’rith Girls (BBG) and BBYO, serving as the International N’siah (President) of BBG for 2013-2014, traveling to dozens of Jewish communities globally. She earned her BA in Jewish Studies with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies at the University of Virginia, where her capstone project was researching and developing Jewish sex education curricula for adolescents and young adults. Her growing curiosity about engaging with traditional Jewish texts using modern feminist and queer lenses led her to the Rabbinical School at Hebrew College, where she expects to be ordained in 2024. Michaela is excited to continue to bring her passion for feminist and queer theory to Jewish human rights with T’ruah as a rabbinical student and into her rabbinate.
