Leora (she/her) has been immersed in Jewish tradition and social justice her whole life and considers T’ruah the place where her personal convictions and professional work fully converge. She joined the team in 2026 as Communications Manager after a career in nonprofit communications and editorial leadership at Planned Parenthood, Barnard College, and Catalyst.
Leora is also the author of six books. Her first, Slut!, is widely regarded as the foundational text on slut-shaming, a subject she began researching before the term existed. Drawing on Moya Bailey’s term “misogynoir” and the framework of intersectionality, she also coined misogynam — a blend of “misogyny” and am, as in am yisrael — to name the particular form of discrimination Jewish women face. In 2022, she was recognized by her New York State senator for her intersectional advocacy for women’s rights. She holds a B.A. from Brown University — where she serves on the Advisory Council of the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women — and an M.A. from Hunter College. A New Yorker, she enjoys reading books on paper and writing with a pen. Her favorite color is leopard print.
