Wow.

I just spent the afternoon in holy protest with 500 Jews outside ICE headquarters in DC, and it was powerful

This was a massive show of moral force, organized with T’ruah and Bend the Arc, with over 60 Jewish organizations, national and local, synagogues and justice organizations, co-sponsoring the protest.

Together in song, prayer, and protest, we showed the world that the Jewish community stands with immigrants and always will.

We made clear that Jews reject ICE brutality and violence and will not stop until ICE is out of our cities and communities.

I spent the three days before the protest with over 140 T’ruah rabbis and cantors, who gathered in Washington DCfor our National Jewish Clergy Convening: three days of learning, training, and commitment to fighting authoritarianism.

Rabbis and cantors came from California, Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Maryland, New York, New Hampshire, and beyond to spend the last few days with T’ruah because, in the face of Trump’s attacks on democracy and ICE’s horrifying assault on immigrant communities, they know that they have an essential role. They are ready to lead with moral courage.

And concerned Jews everywhere are also stepping into their own power as leaders, coming with their synagogues from as far as North Carolina to join us today!

Inspired? Here are two next steps you can take from anywhere.

1) Add your name to this petition: As Jews, we demand Signature Aviation immediately end its contracts that support ICE.

2) Join me on Zoom next Thursday 2/19 at 7:30pm ET to learn more about the protest and how you can get involved in the fight against ICE and the corporations that enable them.

Shira, Jews won’t stand idly by as our neighbors are kidnapped from their homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. With your support, T’ruah will keep empowering rabbis and cantors to be the moral leaders this moment desperately needs.

Onward,

Rabbi Jill Jacobs (she/her)
CEO, T’ruah
