T’ruah condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the rocket attacks against Israeli civilians in the south of Israel. Targeted attacks on civilians, such as these, are a clear violation of international human rights law, as well as all religious prohibitions against attempted murder or harm of a creation in the divine image. We call on the Israeli government, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad to restore the ceasefire, and stop the escalating violence.
The story of Purim reminds us how quickly dark can turn to light, and mourning can turn to celebration. In this moment, Israelis and Palestinians have an extraordinary opportunity to make peace and to create a two-state solution that protects the lives and dignity of people on both sides of the border. This Purim, we pray that the current violence quickly turns into peace.
