NEW YORK — On behalf of our 2,300 rabbis and cantors and their communities in North America, T’ruah mourns the loss of Sid (Sidney) Topol, generous philanthropist and longtime advocate for the human rights of both Israelis and Palestinians.
Rabbi Jill Jacobs, CEO of T’ruah, issued the following statement:
“Sid Topol was a friend, a supporter of T’ruah and so many of our partner organizations. He was a staunch advocate of nonviolence and an activist until the end. Sid was a person who “walks uprightly, does justice, and speaks truth from his heart.” (Psalms 15:2)
“Sid often told us, ‘Be bold.’ He embodied that mantra throughout his life by investing in big ideas, challenging those in power, and always believing that the next generation would change the world.
“T’ruah sends condolences to Sid’s daughters, Joanne Topol, Deborah Topol and Martha Stolzer and their families on their loss of a true mensch. May his memory be for a blessing.”
