So what can clergy do?
T’ruah is proud to once again work with Faiths United to Save Democracy to support their Poll Chaplain program. We invite you to join us in protecting democracy, supporting voters, and bringing a Jewish moral presence to polling places across the country. Whether you have participated before or are new to the program, we hope you will consider serving as a Poll Chaplain during the 2026 election cycle.
What are Poll Chaplains?
Poll Chaplains are clergy volunteers who serve as a calm, nonpartisan presence at polling locations. They help de-escalate tensions, support voters and election workers, document concerns, and ensure that all eligible voters can participate safely and freely in our democracy. At a time when election workers and voters continue to face intimidation and misinformation, clergy have a unique role to play in affirming the dignity of every person and the integrity of our democratic process.
Faiths United to Save Democracy is recruiting poll chaplains in 9 states (if you don’t live in one of these states, but you’re willing to pay to travel, you can still participate!):
- Arizona
- Georgia
- Michigan
- North Carolina
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- Texas
- Virginia
- Wisconsin
How do you become a poll chaplain?
- You must sign up for a training with Faiths United to Save Democracy. The remaining training dates are:
- Make sure to write “T’ruah” in the field “How did you hear about Faiths United to Save Democracy (FUSD)?”When you write that T’ruah sent you, Faiths United to Save Democracy will send us your information and we’ll be in touch directly to offer more support and connection with your colleagues.
- Faiths United to Save Democracy will assign you a shift in a priority state closer to Election Day.
