Reproductive freedom is a Jewish value.
National Council of Jewish Women hosts Repro Shabbat annually on the Shabbat when we read Parshat Mishpatim, which contains verses commonly used as the foundation of Judaism’s approach to reproductive health, rights, and access. In these challenging times, we acknowledge the vital importance of this issue.
This Shabbat T’ruah will be joining National Council of Jewish Women and other organizations across the country to celebrate Repro Shabbat. We will explore the themes of Parshat Mishpatim — the Torah verses that explain why Judaism permits and sometimes requires abortion — and the implications of policies that threaten bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.
There are many ways to engage on Repro Shabbat. You can host a Repro Shabbat event in your community or bring Repro Shabbat into your home with a gathering of family or friends or even a quiet celebration for yourself.
