We just learned a group of extremist right-wing Israeli government ministers will be in New York City to speak at the Jerusalem Post’s annual conference.
Let’s be there as they enter the building to send them a clear message: American Jews say no to the far-right and yes to democracy!
Join T’ruah and the Progressive Israel Network on Monday, June 5 to protest these anti-democratic Israeli government officials and show solidarity and support for Israeli protesters. We will gather outside Gotham Hall (1356 Broadway between 36th and 37th Street) from 8:30-9:30 AM.
Bring signs that name and shame the ministers who support the government’s dangerous anti-democratic, anti-pluralism, anti-LGBTQ+ agenda: Meir Porush, Minister of Jerusalem and Jewish Tradition; Amichai Chikli, Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Social Equality; Ofir Sofer, Minister of Aliyah & Integration; Nir Barkat, Economy Minister; and Ofir Akunis, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. We will have additional protest signs available as well.
If you’re wondering just how alarming their discriminatory vision for Israel is, here are a few of the things they’ve said publicly:
- Ofir Sofer said in an interview: “There is no place for the delusion called a Palestinian state.”
- Meir Porush compared Reform Jews to pigs: “[Reform Jews] take parts of the Torah, they have a new religion, they spread their hooves and say, ‘We are pure,’ like the pig that spreads its hooves.”
- Amichai Chikli wrote on Facebook: Tel Aviv’s Pride Parade is a “disgraceful vulgarity.”
- Nir Barkat called for Israel’s non-partisan attorney general and top civil servants to become politicized servants of the government.
- Ofir Akunis told the Israeli public: “There will never be a Palestinian terror state in Judea and Samaria.”
If these words and positions don’t represent your Jewish values or your vision for a just, peaceful, and democratic Israel, you’re not alone. Join us Monday in midtown.
