As Thanksgiving approaches, many of us look forward to gathering with loved ones to celebrate (and eat)! There’s always that one uncle, or maybe even a closer relation, that you’re not sure how you’re going to survive being in close proximity to them. However, this year’s conversations may be more challenging than ever due to our general elections and the continued conflict in our post-October 7 reality. We’re here to help you navigate these potentially contentious discussions with deftness and confidence.
We will guide you through effective communication strategies, active listening techniques, and other tools to foster understanding in heated discussions. Whether you’re anticipating strident guests, vigorous debates, or just seeking to create a more inclusive atmosphere, this session is designed to equip you with the skills you need.
We’ll be joined by Interfaith America. They will share with us tools used in their programs, which teaches students and campus professionals how to truly listen, understand, be heard, and seek common ground to positively impact their communities without compromising deeply held values.
What to Expect:
- Insightful tips on handling sensitive topics with empathy
- Scenarios to game plan for and practice your skills
- A space to share concerns and questions
- Resources for after the session
